Of notable interest is Sir John Davies,(1569-1626) the third son of Mary and John Bennett. He grew up in the Pythouse and entered Oxford College in 1585 and was later appointed to the Parliament. He was disbarred after an argument with a fellow countrymen, and attempting to gain favor with Queen Elizabeth began writing poetry. He wrote some of the most famous Elizabethian poetry and sonnets to name a few: The Epigrammes, Orchestra, Gulling Sonnets, Nosce Teipsum, Hymns of Astrea.
In 1601, he was reinstated to the bar and continued his political career. He was appointed Attorney General for Ireland in 1606, elected MP for Fermanagh in 1612 and Speaker of the Irish Parliament's Lower House in 1613. His wife was purified for her christian beliefs and later hanged in the Tower of London.
